JOSEPH-UZAC-dermophil

An expert in skin care by nature

The history of Dermophil Indien began in 1914, when apothecary Joseph Uzac developed an ointment designed to soothe the chapped hands of French soldiers exposed to the cold in the trenches. In 1919, he perfected the formula for the first balm for chapped skin and created the Dermophil Indien brand, inspired by the healing properties of Peru balsam.

Over the decades, Dermophil has kept pace with changes in society and consumer habits: modernizing the stick in the 1960s, introducing product innovations, launching new lines, and expanding its distribution channels. True to its pioneering spirit, the brand continues its transformation today by embracing a phyto-dermatological and more natural approach to lip care.

Dermophil, a century-old brand

  • 1914

An apothecary named Joseph Uzac went to treat French soldiers in the trenches who were suffering from the cold by developing a highly effective balm to repair and protect their skin.

  • 1950

Following the success of the Original Hand Balm, Dermophil developed a version for the lips. The skincare line, sold exclusively in pharmacies, was granted the status of a medication.

  • 1964

Influenced by pop culture: the metal tube was phased out. It was replaced by a plastic tube modeled after lipstick packaging. Lighter in weight, it appealed to both women and men, becoming a must-have.

  • 1987

Launch of Dermokids, a line dedicated to children featuring delicious flavors. Dermophil created heartwarming and humorous commercials to bring a smile to the faces of young and old alike!

  • 1994

The brand becomes available in supermarkets and hypermarkets: the classic stick, sunscreen, junior formula, and a hand cream round out the lineup.

  • 2018

The entire product line is discontinued to be reformulated with naturally derived ingredients.

Des engagements forts

For over a century, Dermophil has been developing skincare products designed to address a universal concern: protecting and repairing skin weakened by external aggressors. Cold, wind, sun, and dryness take a particularly heavy toll on the hands and lips—two areas that are constantly exposed and sensitive.

Over the generations, Dermophil skincare products have become essential steps in daily skin care. Today, the brand continues this mission by offering formulas that are increasingly gentle on the skin, incorporating naturally derived ingredients and an approach inspired by phyto-dermatology.

A selection of ingredients

Dermophil Indien skincare products are based on a selection of natural ingredients known for their nourishing, protective, and restorative properties. Combined in formulas inspired by phyto-dermatology, these ingredients help restore comfort to the lips and hands while strengthening the skin’s barrier against external aggressors.

Macadamia oil: nourishment and regeneration

Rich in essential fatty acids, macadamia oil deeply nourishes the skin and supports the regeneration of the epidermis. It helps restore the skin barrier and maintain the suppleness of the lips.

Cocoa butter: protection and softness

Known for its protective properties, cocoa butter forms a film on the skin’s surface that prevents dryness and protects fragile lips.

Natural waxes: a shield against dehydration

Beeswax and carnauba wax create a protective film that helps lock in moisture and shield the skin from harsh weather conditions such as cold or wind.

Plant-based oils: long-lasting softness and comfort

Plant-based oils such as flaxseed oil and apricot kernel oil help nourish the skin, strengthen the hydrolipidic film, and keep lips soft and comfortable day after day.
